Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

Received a counter offer for a bank owned home in MD, its an as is sale with no inspection contingency. We want an inspection for our own peace of mind but if something really awful was to come up can we back out of the sale once we accept the counter. Would we only loose our Ernest money deposit or do we have to complete the purchase?
