Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

My State and County Government has just imposed a new real estate tax and made it retroactive for the the past three years. I just received a letter and revised bills regarding that. I'm willing to pay the extra tax, but they are charging me penalties and interest for a liability they just imposed on me and isn't due for 6 more weeks. Is that legal?

Either you are misinterpreting the tax bill or someone made a mistake. You should contact the tax office that issued the bill and get more information.
