Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

Vacation Security Deposit Troubles

This summer a few friends and I rented out a beach condo for a week. This week in Ocean City, MD was designated as ''senior week'' for the surrounding high schools, so everyone in our house was age 17-19. When we first arrived we took pictures and video footage of all damages in the house. We cleaned up spills, vacummed almost every day and followed the rules posted on the walls. In the following weeks we had a hard time getting in touch with someone to get our $1000 security deposit back. When 30 days had WELL passed our leave date, we were told that over $800 would be held from our deposit for damages. I'm sure that we would have noticed over $800 dollars worth of damages on our way out of the house. They have not yet told us what we have 'damaged' but we plan on using the videos to our advantage. We all feel that they are taking advantage of our age. What kind of action can we take legally if they refuse to return our money?

Re: Vacation Security Deposit Troubles

Once you have reviewed the terms of the lease and determine that under the lease you were due the return of your security deposit within the time specified in the lease, you have a legal right to file a suit under the theory of breach of contract. What date does the lease specify for the return of the security deposit? Do you have any video or photographic evidence of the house's state of cleanliness?
