Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

driving on a suspended license

i was pulled over 3 weeks ago for speeding and it turned out that my license had been suspended because i failed to appear in court in regards to an earlier traffic ticket. the traffic ticket had been paid, but through the fault of the Maryland MVA it was credited to another person't account and my ticket as a result was never paid and i was issued court appearence papers that i never recieved. long story short, i went and got the original violation straightened out with the MVA and the county that had issued the ticket. they gave me a ''true test account'' that admitted they had made a mistake with the original processing of the ticket and my license should never have been suspended in the first place.

my question is this: is there anyway for me to go to the state's attourney office and get them to drop the charges of me driving on a suspended license? id rather not go to court and it was a mistake that i was charged in the first place.

Re: driving on a suspended license

You can likely take care of this, but most likely you will still have to go to court. The reason for this is that the prosecutor will not talk to their police officer about your case until half an hour before the trial time. Also, the SA's office likely doesn't know who will be handling the traffic cases on that particular day if it is more than a couple weeks in advance.

Because this type of case carries jail time, and because anything can happen in court, you should be represented by an attorney. If you would like to contact me by email, I would be happy to answer more questions. Wihtout knowing more about your record and driving history, I cannot give you an accurate assessment of your case.
