Re: employed with fed. gov/file bankruptcy?

Couched within your question is, I think, another: if you file, will your employer have to know?

First, in answer to your main question, it is a violation of federal law for the government to deny or terminate employment solely because the employee has been or is a debtor in a bankruptcy proceeding. So not only may you keep your job, you cannot lose it because you have filed.

In answer to the other question, the law requires that notice of your case be served upon your creditors and your creditors only. You are not required to let anyone else know, and the law has no provision for publishing or otherwise notifying anyone else.
