Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

My Daughter opened 3 credit cards using my info without me knowing totaling 15,000.

She changes my address in 2000 from my current address in MA to NY where she lived.

My Husband and I went to refinance our house and discovered all this, were denied the loan, and that she has defaulted on all the credit cards.

She has moved to California and my notice when he pulls our credit report that now my Address is California.

What can we do without putting our daughter in jail?

1st can?t get a loan without the loan my husband has to work.

2nd My credit is junk and don?t want this in my name.

3rd with Social security and tax purposes technically I lived in NY since 2000.

Thank you

You have my sympathy. This is truly tragic. There are few options available that won't run the risk of exposing your daughter to the legal consequences of her previous actions.

You may wish to consider (weigh carefully) the option of notifying the credit reporting agencies of this ongoing identity theft. You are entitled to place letters of dispute in your credit files to explain your innocence.

Unfortunately, all these choices may eventually land the authorities on your daughter's doorstep. Good Luck!
