Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

I was recently served some court documents from a collection agency over an OLD crdit card debt. i am wondering what the statute of limitations is on this? I also want to know what my options are as I don't have much money. I was out of work for a while. Now that I am working again, I am still digging out of my hole.
