Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

I received a letter in the mail from a police department stating As a pursuant to an investigation that I have to contact the station and speak to the Criminal Detective.

I called the number listed on the letter and the detective want to talk next week. A friend of mine who studies law advised me not to go alone (without a lawyer or attorney)

My question is do I LEGALLY HAVE to accept the detectives request for me to go in and talk aka sign up for interrogation.

You do not have to assist in any investigation.

This sounds like something you definitely want to speak with an attorney about. Contact an attorney in your area.
