Legal Question in Elder Law in Massachusetts

New home with Inlaw
My wife and I are building a new home. Her mother has agreed to sell her current home and come with us and have a seperate inlaw apartment built on to the house we're building. We asked her how much she would feel comfortable with as a ''nest egg'' and she gave us a figure. She also has agreed to a certain amount to contribute to the overall purchase and construction. Prior to asking her to come with us we approached all of her children and told them our plan and got verbal approval from everyone. Basically their responses were ''take everything from the sale of the house and do it''. Recently it seems that one of the children has developed an interest in my mother in laws finances. My question is should we have something drawn up legally that protects my wife and I in the event of my mother in laws passing? Should everything be in our name with some sort of guarantee that my mother in law will have a home with us for the rest of her natural life? I don't want to be faced with the potential of selling our new home to satisfy potential ''inheritance issues''.
