Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

My boyfriend and I got into a domestic dispute, there was a witness who called 911 and he was arrested. I wrote a statement, we went to court and I had gotten a restraining order placed. After a couple weeks I had it removed and we agreed that we both would seek consuling and deal with our issues ourselves. He unfortunately got arrested again for another issue having nothing to do with me, but someone just trying to get him in trouble. It is a serious accusation and he may be facing life. I went to the court house in an attempt to recant my statement and remove myself from the situation but was told that it is not possible. He has a dangerousness hearing in two days and I can't forgive myself if he goes to prison for life.. Is there anyway I can help him or still recant my statement?

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do. If you recant your statement, then you can get in trouble. The most you can do is assist him by showing up and telling the court you think he needs anger management not jail.

I however think you should stay out of it. The accusation has to be extremely serious for him to get life. If he is facing three strikes law, your restraining order is not a criminal conviction. He apparently does have a temper and a violent streak,

If the person making the accusation is lying, it will likely be found out. A decent criminal law attorney can usually demonstrate someone is lying.

Good Luck.
