responsibility

If you have been estrange from your husband for 18 years and he dies, are you responsible for his debts?

I have not seen or spoken with him in years. We have an adult kid from our marriage.

you could be. It also depends on the debts, because technically you are or were still married. You could also be a beneficiary to any asset that he left.

His estate is responsible, but not you personally unless you co-signed any of the debts.
