Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

What's the first step here? We've given a licensed MA contractor $1200 deposit to start work on a mold problem in our home. We signed his contract, he cashed his check, and he's never showed up since, despite a promise to show up tomorrow almost every day for two weeks. His phone is now out of service due to non-payment. It's been two weeks of this nightmare. Do we go to the police, get a lawyer, or both?

Both!

Your first step should be a Consumer Protection demand letter under General Laws Chapter 93A. If you don't get the required response, you should go straight to small claims.
