Legal Question in Immigration Law in Massachusetts

My father in law has 3 criminal records of stealing things in HK in 2000 and 2006 respectively, at that time he did seek for psychologist's therapy. My mom is currently filing her immigration in US, planning to apply green card for my father in law once she is done with hers. May I know will there be any consequences for his immigration application?? Thanks a lot.
