Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

Separation Agreements

My company recently terminated 5 of us. They included a severance agreement package. it is 12 paragraphs long and includes the provision "I will not proceed with any claims against said company". Does this mean I will not be able to file for unemployment once the severance term is up?

Probably not....

If you signed the severance agreement which includedthe release of claims paragragh, it is likely that you'llbe limited only to certain types of wrongful terminationtypes of claims. There may be some claims that cannot be releasedand some claims that are not covered by the typical release(e.g. unemployment benefits)
