Rent prices for MA
Is it legal to charge $500 for rent for a room thats shared with another person in sober home program?

That sounds like it could be a potential problem.
If the total rent for the apartment (and others like it) is $1,000.00/month, then there is probably nothing wrong with it. Did you choose this roommate, or were you placed with them?
It may also be that your landlord is trying to improperly double up on rents.
