Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

I live in Plymouth, MA and the house next door to ours has been abandonned for over 2 years. The previous owners walked away from this 4 bedroom home after running into financial difficulities. The property is becoming run-down. There is substancial weather damage to the siding. The fence surrounding a portion of the yard is falling down. There has been no activity there by anyone. The last holder of the mortgage is Household Finance. This property is an eyesore and is bringing down our property value as well as becoming a safety hazard. Is there any thing we can do as neighbors of this abandonned property?

You can petition your town's code enforcement officials (usually a building inspector or health inspector) to cite the owner for every violation. alternatively, your town can file suit to place the property in receivership status, or you and the other neighbors can sue the owner under public nuisance laws.
