Legal Question in Tax Law in Massachusetts

I was fired before receiving tax free tuition reimbursement. I am getting a settlement can I ask to receive this reimbursement tax free from the settlement.

I also paid my attorney in full can I ask for a tax free reimbursement for the attorney fees already paid.

You can ask for anything. The issue is whether you qualify under the plan they have for tax-free tuition reimbursement. You can get reimbursement of your legal fees, but to the extent you get reimbursement you will not be able to deduct the legal fees you paid.

I do not know why you were terminated or what the situation is, however, if you were an employee at will and are not part of a protected group, over 40 for example, then there is a limit to what any employer will pay or offer to get a release to avoid a lawsuit assuming you have one.
