Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Massachusetts

I was paid via personal check a sum of money representing my share of my mother's estate. It came with no documentation or accounting. I do not believe it included assets which my brother put into his own name for the sake of convenience in paying her bills during the last year of my mother's life. If I endorse this check, am I still in a position to petition the court for a complete accounting or will endorsing the check be taken as a settlement, case closed action?

If there is no documentation you can seek a complete accounting even if you cash the check unless there is a restrictive endorsement on the check.
