Legal Question in Family Law in Mexico

What information do I need and what do we do?

My half sister from my father died recently. She has 2 children. One child is her boyfriend's where she was in Mexico and the other childs father is here in the states in jail but both children are in Mexico. The oldest was born in the states and has been in Mexico for about 2 years now. We want the oldest child and would like the younger if the father chooses not to keep her. But according to what I have read we cant go to court here in the US for adoption or custody rights due to jurisdiction. My father, dead sisters father want the children here safe. What can we do? My father is down there now to claim the body. What papers should he try to get to help us in this process. Birth certificates and what else?

With the children living in Mexico, and being Mexican citizens, jurisdiction woul dindeed be in Mexico. You will have to speak to a Mexican attorney who specializes in family law, especially adoption matters. Good Luck.
