Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

I have a car loan that I defaulted on in 2000. Ford Credit sold the debt to a law firm that got a judgement against me and then proceeded to garnish my paychecks and my bank account. The original loan amount was 5K... So now I've received a notice from the state of Michigan that the same law firm is claiming my tax return and claiming that I still owe them $1500.00. I don't know what to do, I can't believe this is still following me 13 years later. In MI the statute of limitations is 6 years, I have never spoken to this law firm, the judgement is not on my credit report. I googled the law firm and was horrified at what I found, stinky business practices at best, predatory business practices at worst. I have paid almost twice the original loan amount. What can I do? Should I contact the law firm?

If you have not made a payment in the last 6 years, then the SOL has run. Dispute the State of Michigan garnishment by following the instructions listed on the Notice. If you would like me to represent you, I may be able to resolve the matter for a small fee. Renee C. Walsh [email protected]
