Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Michigan

Timeline for charges

Hello.

I was recently told that if a charge against a person has not been addressed within ten years that the charge will be dropped. Is this partly or completely accurate? And if partly, what are the stipulations.

Thanks.

Re: Timeline for charges

If the charge is a bench warrant for failure to appear in court or an arrest warrant, it will not be dropped.

If you have not been arrested, the preferred strategy is to surrender after talking to an attorney. This will keep your bond low.

Depending on the crime, if the police finally arrest you (the usual arrest is incident to a traffic stop), your bond will be much higher and you may find yourself abruptly sent to jail.
