Legal Question in Consumer Law in Michigan

Kid screwed on car lease

My granddaughter just leased a new car she is just 18. They told her the payments would be $250 a month. They are over 400 and her insurance is 700 a month. She was lied to They told her she would get 3500 for the trade in on the car. she has had a 2000 Ford Windstar in excellent shape. They gave her 1200. She went back the next day to back out and they told her sorry about your luck. Is there a 3 day period to back out of a deal in Michigan under truth in lending?

There should be a provision in the lease agreement regarding a cancellation period.

Also, there is no way the insurance is $700 a month unless she has a very bad driving record. In any event, the dealership has nothing to do with the insurance rates and cannot be accountable - it was her job to check with her agent on the pricing for that particular car.

Honestly, she should have not gone alone to do this - car sales people often take advantage of women and younger people when coercing them into something they can't afford and/or don't completely understand. Bottom line is your granddaughter should have been more careful when entering into the contract.

Look at the terms of your contract immediately and go back to the dealership with her, and raise hell for them getting her into something she didn't quite understand, they should be willing to work with you. It seems like they took advantage of her, but technically she is an adult capable of entering into a binding contract.

Good luck.
