Legal Question in Consumer Law in Michigan

Question regarding a kitten I bought and had shipped from MI, to me in CA

Hello! I recently bought a kitten from a cattery in MI, and I want to get my money back. It came sick, and come to find it had FIP, an incurable disease and we had to euthanize the kitten(have documentation from vet). The owner of the cattery refuses a refund. Do I have to go to small claims in Ottawa CO. Mi, or can I make her come here to Contra Costa CO. CA? Thank you! i think I have a right to all my money, vet bills, transportation, suffering- hope you do!

??ately, you have to go to Michigan to get a judgment, unless the cattery maintains an agent for service of process here (check with the California secretary of state website). The small claims act doesn't allow service outside of California....yet. The consumer attorneys are trying to change this so that Californians do not get ripped off by smaller out of state companies.
