Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

I use to have a Bally's Total Fitness membership. I didn't renew my account and told them that I didn't want to sign up for the month to month plan. My membership ended in May 2009. I don't owe them anything. I made all of the payments that I was obligated to make. They sent my account to a collection agency for a pass due amount that does not exist. How do I fight this error?

You need to communicate with them in writing with delivery confirmation. Dispute the negative item on your credit report to the 3 major credit reporting companies. You will need to send a letter disputing the item to the 3 major companies. An investigation will proceed and you will get a response. If the item is not taken off your credit report, you need to continue to write to them until it is off, or have an attorney write a letter for you threatening to sue under the Fair Credit Reporting Acts.
