Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Creditor gave information to my employer

I have a car lease that I am currently behind on. I've been making bi-weekly payments and notifying the creditor of them but I am not yet caught up. Yesterday, they called and spoke to my boss and told him that if I do not pay them, they will be repossessing the car. Now, I understand they can call to verify my employment, but can they give any information like that out to anyone other than the people who signed the lease?

Re: Creditor gave information to my employer

That behavior by the creditor is prohibited by law and I believe you have grounds to file a lawsuit under the Michigan Debt Collection Act.

I would be happy to discuss this with you further. You can reach me at 248.679.1552.
