Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

failure to appear for unpaid medical bill

I am disabled with no income and I live with my elderly mother. I have been told I have a bench warrant for failure to appear for a discovery hearing. Which i didn't get notice for. Today I was told by a neighbor thier were officers at my moms to arrest me for failure to appear in court regarding that medical bill can they do this?

Re: failure to appear for unpaid medical bill

What you should do is contact the court and find out if there is indeed a bench warrant out for your arrest. If there is, let the clerk know that you would like to make arrangements to present yourself to the court to clear the matter up.

As an attorney, if I have a client who has a bench warrant, I will appear with them when they "turn themselves in" on the warrant.

It bodes well with the court when you "turn yourself in" and will make your argument that you did not get proper notice, more credible.
