Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Uninsured Patient Rights with Payment of Large Hospital Bill

My adult daughter recently received medical treatment in a hospital. The hospital knew she did not have insurance. Expensive tests were ordered and completed. Now they want full payment within 30 days. This is impossible. If she makes monthly payments deemed on what she can afford, can the hospital demand payment in full within 30 days. The hospital has refused to work with her on setting up an affordable payment plan.

I believe the hospital can demand payment in 30 days unless you have a contract stating otherwise. Perhaps you can call them to make arrangements to pay it off over time. If not, and there are other issues regarding debt, bankruptcy might be a solution.
