Re: Statue of Limitations

Michigan has a 6-year statute of limitations for criminal charges to be brought. This is the general rule. Some offenses (like criminal sexual conduct against a minor) can be issued more than 6 years after-the-fact, and murder has no limit.

The statute of limitations concerns when a charge can be filed. But, if it's been filed and the arrest warrant has been just sitting around for years, then you might have a legal basis to have the charge dismissed if the delay has prejudiced your ability to defend yourself.
