Legal Question in DUI Law in Michigan

MI dui but live in WI

My son was visiting MI and received a dui (.09). He lives in WI but has had to stay in MI so he can go to court next week. He's willing to pay any fine and lose the right to drive in MI but doesn't want MI jail time or community service (so he can come home). Should he try to make this agreement with the courts before his court hearing? He can't afford a huge retainer but can make payments (if he's not in jail and can work).

First of all your son should retain an attorney so a plea can be negotiated. Depending on where this is in Michigan, my fee should be no more than $1,500 for up to 4 appearances. By negotiating with the prosecutor you son may be compromising his defense in this matter.

Sincerely,

John Graziani

In the past I have helped out-of-state OWI defendants complete all court appearances in one day with any probation or community service transferred to their home state. If your son has no prior alcohol offenses, I can advise him accordingly.

It would be helpful to know the location of the court in which he is scheduled to appear.
