Legal Question in DUI Law in Michigan

Veteran Discrimination

I am a recently returned veteran from Iraq. I have never been in trouble with the law. Six months after I was discharged I recieved a DUI. At the sentencing, my punishment was more harsh than any other sentence that I have heard of around this area. I feel that because I am a veteran and I live in a democratic city, that they really stuck it to me. Any help on this? Do I have the right to appeal on grounds of discrimination?
