Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

directional to absolve a non-marriage after 18yrs

My friend's 3rd marriage was in Illinois in 1979-80. His wife left in 1985 and no one has heard anything from her since. We are unable to locate records of birth, death, marriage, or divorce where this is concerned. We need the right directionals as to what to do to make a legal remedy of this situation to have the marriage dissolved

In order to get divorced, all he needs to do in Michigan is to live in the state for more than 6 months and in the county where he files for more than 10 days. He can serve her by publication. I find it amazing that he can't remember where he got married but it is somewhat irrelevant. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
