Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

can house be taken

If as husband and wife, you live in the wifes home that she had prior to the marriage, and her name is the only name on the title...if you get a divorce, can the husband force you to give him half of the equity or value of the home? The husband has worked very little over the years and was supported more by the wifes income than any income that he earned.

Re: can house be taken

The fact that the house was owned by you prior to the marriage is one factor but not determinative of the issue. The length of the marriage, etc. may give the husband a piece of the pie. You need a lawyer. William S. Stern
