Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

I live in the state of Michigan and was just served with divorce papers from my husband. There is a clause on the summons that states that I must "file a written answer with the court in 21 days and serve a copy on the other party, or take other lawful action with the court." I currently do not want to seek an attorney, but my husband has one. HOW do I go about filing with the court on my own? I have called several attorneys as well as the courthouse in my county, and no one has any answers. I thought there might be a form somewhere to complete? I know many people represent themselves. Please give me some direction.

You will need to file an answer to the divorce complaint and serve it on your husband in time. The caption (i.e. heading) will be the same as the one he served you with and you need to answer his allegations in the complaint one by one either by admitting or denying or a combination of admitting in part or denying part. If you contact Legal Aid they may have a pro se form they can send you to use or use as a model. You can always try the Nolo books which are available at any public library or law library. For example, look for Nolo's Michigan's Divorce Guide or whatever it is called. Good luck.
