Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

My mother is in hospice and will die soon. I intend to file for divorce, but want to wait as long as I can. At what point do I need to file to prevent my mother's estate from becoming a part of the divorce?

It should not be part of the marital estate. Inheritances are separate property.

But do not commingle. If you deposit $ in a joint account you risk it being considered marital property.

If you know that you will be filing, I would do it soon.

Call if any other questions.
