Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

What is the reason behind the 60 day waiting period before a divorce in MI? Is is in case the parties change their minds? It just seems an odd amount of time.

This is mainly curiousity. But I am beginning the process now and really cannot see that happening in 60 days.

Most states have waiting periods of some form or another. Largely, it exists so folks don't a major life altering decision, like getting divorced, without some period of contemplation. When there are minor children, the waiting period is even longer (one hundred and eighty days).
