Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

bad checks

received an out of state check; michigan that was written out to be worthless;it was for 500.00 i live in pa & would like to know how do I file charges? what actions do i take?

You'll have to find out where the person lives and file a small claims action. For $500, though, you may want to consider whether you'd be better off taking the tax deduction, or selling the debt to a company that will pursue collection for you. You'd also want to consider hiring a lawyer to take care of it for you at a flat rate, if possible. Then, the filing could be in District Court. Make sure you put the bank fees and any incidental expenses into your complaint, don't just ask for the $500.

Call the police department in the city where the writer wrote the check. They may be willing to pursue the matter. Good Luck John C. Talpos
