Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

Bullying

I'm a dental student at a private universtity who gets verbally abused by a faculty. Is there anything I can do legally to get this instructor fired without risking retaliation after speaking out.

Re: Bullying

There is no law against verbal bullying unless it occurs in violation of some civil rights statute. If you got the prof fired and somehow, he had the pull to cause you not to enter the profession, you may have some claim for violation of an advantageous economic relationship. William S. Stern

Re: Bullying

Take a look at the grammatical and spelling errors in your posting along with the its absence of facts. Would you want someone as careless as you working on your teeth? Perhaps you mistake a harsh response to your work as bullying.

Verbal abuse is an impression or a conclusion - not a fact.

If you don't have any facts to support your position, you don't have a legitimate complaint. Even if you did, there are no legal remedies for bullying unless you're singled out because of an immutable characteristic such as your race, sex, religion, etc.

As a practical matter, if you complain about your instructor to superiors, you'll likely find yourself in classes taught by his supporters.

Academics can be quite petty in retaliation, and you'll seldom know who was responsible.
