Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

Death at someone's home

My son died at a friend's home. While the cause of his death was from an accidental drug overdose, there are several circumstances that are just not right. Can we sue the parents, the people who own the home. Does homeowner's insurance provide for this type of protection for the homeowner. The police know something wasn't right, but didn't do anything. They tried to follow-up, but the friend left the area. The boys were over 18 and no parents were home at the time.

Thank you.
