Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

Non-payment of wages

I worked for a Travel Agency on a part time basis for 2 months sort of as a fill-in but, was on-call quite a bit of the time and also worked outside as a commission agent. I received one check from the owner and after that never received another one. I quit working there and tried numerous times to get my paycheck and my commission check and I have not had any luck. The owner calls me when he knows I am at work and tells me unless I call him he won't send it to me knowing that this is impossible because he works the same hours as me and when I do have a chance to call, he is conveniently out of the office. I left my hours on his desk the day I left, I faxed them to him again and still no luck. I have even sent him a fax telling him I was going to get in touch with the Labor Dept but, he doesn't seem to care so I have no choice but to take legal steps. I have done all I can do, I worked for him, did a good job and I want what is coming to me.......It isn't much but it is mine! I was told I should send a letter to the editorial dept. of the community newspaper and also to ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents) but, I'm not sure if that would be the right thing to do or not. Please Help!
