Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

My son is in the Military. When he was home on leave he loaned someone $2,800 and this person has not paid him back. My question if he does a Power of Attorney can we as his parents file the small claims suit and represent him at court? If he can do Power of Attorney, I realize the POA needs to be very specific and probably detailed towards this specific small claims case. What would you suggest be written in the POA?
