Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Michigan

17 year old charged with mdop

My son intentionally scratched a car, has confessed, and has been served with papers for MDOP $100. I do not know what the $100 means, under or over $100 and I do not know what he may be looking at as far as a pentalty. He is in the US Army delayed entry program, graduating high school next month and leaving for boot camp in July. This is his first, and only, offense. Please tell me what we can expect when we go to the court house on June 14.

Re: 17 year old charged with mdop

To briefly answer your question your son has been charged with malicious destruction of property under MCL 750.377; I would have to read the paperwork further to see exactly what subsection he was charged under. However, if the charge is under $200.00 this is a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days in jail, a fine of $500.00 or both. I would strongly suggest that you consult an attorney as soon as possible.

If I can be of future assistance do not hesitate to contact this office directly.
