Renting a home in foreclosure

A neighbor and his disable father starting renting a home in March, 2006. They received a notice on their door about the home going into foreclosure. The current owner told them that the bank said that they have 15 days to get out or the bank will keep their belongings. My question is, what are the options for my friend and his father? Can they contact the bank and work out something where they can continue to rent?

If there is a lease, the lease terms prevail. Usually, the bank will honor a lease. At the very minimum, the bank must evict the tenants which will generally take at least 45 days. If the current landlord wants to evict, he does it pursuant to the lease or if no written lease, he must also evict which will also take about 45 days. There is no eviction without a court document notifying the tenants of the proceeding.
