Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

how to make lawyer do his job

I hired a lawyer Feb. of this year to get a house I own back as a land contract holder defaulted. I payed this lawyer $500.00 retainer fee, in Feb. and gave him all my leagel papers (land contract of the holder and so on) the lawyer said he was going to make copies and send them (my papers) back to me, he hasn't yet I have made lots of phone calls to him sence Feb. he has done nothing to get this taken care of. He has cashed my check and it has been 9 months now the house I own is empty I receive no payment from the land contract holder, taxes are not payed and I am afraid that the state will take house for non payment of taxes soon. What can I do to get my money back from this lawyer and papers as he does not return my phone calls. I am at a lost end as I hired a man to do a job and he has not done this what can I do now before its too late to do anything as I don't have any papers to hirer another lawyer.
