does a landlord have any legal standing if there is no lease?

if my renter moved out owing back rent can i take them to court and win with no lease?

Yes, you can still sue, it just makes it harder to prove your case without a written lease agreement. However, if the tenant was residing there and paid other monthly payments, that shows he was an actual tenant and was supposed to pay monthly rent.
