Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Michigan

filing a sexual harassment claim in michigan

I want to file a sexual harassment claim against my previous employer in the state of Michigan. I contacted the city circuit court and they advised me to go to the library and find information about how to file the claim (there is no set form for doing this). What is a good resource (i.e. reference book)for guiding me on doing this? thank you!

This depends on what you want to file. You can file a charge of sexual harassment against your previous employer with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. They have forms and will help you with them. You do not have to have an attorney but it is advisable that you get legal advice from an experienced emplyment discrimination attorney.

Filing a lawsuit in court is a much more complicated matter. There are numerous rules and procedures. The court clerks are not allowed to give you legal advice. Filing the lawsuit is just the beginning. While I do not believe that you need a lawyer for everything, I would strongly advise you to get an experienced employment discrimination lawyer before filing a lawsuit on your own.

I will be happy to give you more information if you can provide me more details. You can do that here or contact me directly through my website or by telephone (248) 642-6020.
