Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

Am i liable for my mother's debt if she passes? I don't live with her. when my father passed 2yrs ago she got his debt equity loan plus her credit cards ,feeling overwhelmed, she refinance the house for $70,000 at 25% interest( i just found about it) . i don't want the house but was wondering how to handle the estate when she passes.

No. Your mother's estate would be liable for the debt, you would not be personally liable. Even if the assets of the estate are insufficient to cover the debt, you would not be personally liable. However, if you did want the house, you would be responsible for paying off any mortgage.
