Mom's credit card bills after she passes away

My mother recently passed away and she has a credit card debt of $5000. She was disabled and living with us for 20 months before she died. We have been paying all her bills including her credit card (I am on her checking account). She has some assets such as a small amount of money and a mobile home which is in my name. Are we obligated to pay the balance of her credit card bill when we sell the mobile home?

If the mobile home is in your name, the money from the mobile home is yours, unless some court holds otherwise.

You have no obligation to pay your mother's debts out of your assets unless you co-signed on the credit cards or otherwise put up one of your assets as collateral to secure a loan to her. Feel free to call my office if you have additional questions. JohnC. Talpos (http://www.Mich-Lawyer.com)
