Legal Question in Construction Law in Minnesota

signed contract with design build firm but told them if the bid was too high for construction, I would

do my own general contracting. The design was completed, but the construction bid was too high.

I paid for the time spent on design, but I noted that the plans are copyrighted and are proprietary

property on the design build firm. My question is, can I take the plans and get bids from and

hire another contractor to do the construction without permission from the design build firm?

I reside in Minnesota.

It probably depends on the terms of the contract. You should contact an attorney to review the contract to better advise you of your rights.
