Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

Check found in Bus

Hi, last weekend when I was travelling by Metro Bus I found a envelope stick on to side of a seat with a tape mentioned as ''Hellow Open Me Have Fun #$ inside''and when I opened the envelope there was $500 check, fully signed and for mentioned as ''From Gift of God'' and Pay to Order of field is blank.

I don't know what to do with the check, I tried calling the person in whose name and number was printed in the check but the number seems to be disconnected.

Please suggest.

AH! forgot to mention, it was around St. Patrick's Day

Re: Check found in Bus

I would dispose of the check immediately. It is quite possible that it was a stolen check and, as a result, seeking to deposit or cash the check may result in criminal charges wherein you would have to defend against charges of theft or forgery.

Any financial windfalls that come too easy generally have strongs attached.

Only chance in hell that it's good will be discovered by going ONLY to the bank it is written on, and ask to cash it. NOT at YOUR bank.

Bring ID and fill in your legal name.
