Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

I have a debt that has now turned into a default judgment for an unpaid credit card from 12 years ago. They have now garnished my wages for the debt. I filed an exemption claim, as my daughter currently receives Medical Assistance from the state, but they are telling me that the exemption no longer applies if I am not the one directly receiving assistance. Is this true? What should I do next to stop the garnishment, and get the funds they have garnished back?

Filing a bankruptcy would stop the garnishment, and depending on the amount and whether you have exemptions available, you may be able to recover the garnished money.

If the debt was barred by the 6 year Statute of Limitations you should immediately move to reopen default judgment
